Passing any HSK level starts with vocabulary. The official lists are finite — about 150 words for HSK 1 up to thousands by HSK 6 — so a clear system beats random reading.
HSK listening uses real Mandarin, not text-to-speech. Study with native audio flashcards so tones and rhythm match the exam. Silent character recognition alone is not enough for the listening section.
Review words you forget more often and words you know less often. That is the same idea behind Anki. HSK Core runs a simplified SM-2 schedule in the browser — open a level and grade yourself honestly after each card.
After a flashcard session, do a short quiz or listening round. Active recall is usually more effective than re-reading lists.
